my favorite childhood tv shows

Before the dawn of my boy meets world obsession and my deep and abiding love for saved by the bell, full house, sabrina the teenage witch and  really any 90s sitcom (bless you, TGIF), there were my younger childhood tv shows.

This was before the era when all children's shows took a shot of crack and went on an ADD-riddled sugar rampage. (Also, i don't think you actually take cocaine via a "shot.") In any case, I think television used to care a little bit more about being educational and wholesome, and a little less about inducing emotions akin to that entire scene in willy wonka when they rode through the creepy light tunnel (speaking of a shot of crack).

i plan to raise my children on some of my old childhood favorites:

  1. Yes yes yes. I used to watch (and love) ALL of those! Reading Rainbow was a very regular part of my childhood. And I completely agree with about the new ADD cartoons. Just...not good. P.S. Thanks for the disclaimer about cocaine. Hahaha.

  2. Awwwwh, Wishbone and Arthur and Doug! I also loved Pepperann, Puzzle Place, Ghost Writer, Magic School Bus... And I know Sabrina the Teenage Witch is not really in this same category. But, I miss Sabrina.

  6. As much as I hate to admit this, I loved Digimon Digital Monsters. I looked forward to every Saturday morning when I could watch the show.

I was a little sad to see that Zoom wasn't on there. I thought I was going to be on that show. I was fluent in Ubbi Dubbi.

Also, Rugrats. I identified with Chuckie. The glasses. The awkward.

    1. How could I forget?! I watched so much Rugrats! Definitely an oversight on my part. I think I identified with Reptar.

  7. I can pretty much gush about any of these series, but I was a total Magic School Bus addict. To this day I think of it whenever I read about the digestive system, or sound waves, or friction. Also, of course, the baking episode where they show the difference between salt and sugar crystals.
I like to think I live up to Ms. Frizzle's motto, "Take chances! Make mistakes! Get messy!"

Also, any time I reminisce about Arthur, this comes to mind:

    2. Hey, girl's gotta represent.
Speaking of, can we bond over how AMAZING Clarissa's wardrobe is on Clarissa Explains It All, and how as a kid I always wanted my boy-next-door to prop a ladder up against my bedroom window? It was a shame that I lived in a one-story house.

    3. I support your be-like-clarissa dreams and...a guy could always substitute a small step ladder.
