Before the dawn of my boy meets world obsession and my deep and abiding love for saved by the bell, full house, sabrina the teenage witch and really any 90s sitcom (bless you, TGIF), there were my younger childhood tv shows.
This was before the era when all children's shows took a shot of crack and went on an ADD-riddled sugar rampage. (Also, i don't think you actually take cocaine via a "shot.") In any case, I think television used to care a little bit more about being educational and wholesome, and a little less about inducing emotions akin to that entire scene in willy wonka when they rode through the creepy light tunnel (speaking of a shot of crack).
i plan to raise my children on some of my old childhood favorites:

...what were yours?
(seriously i really miss wishbone.)
Yes yes yes. I used to watch (and love) ALL of those! Reading Rainbow was a very regular part of my childhood. And I completely agree with about the new ADD cartoons. Just...not good. P.S. Thanks for the disclaimer about cocaine. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteYou know I am here for all your drug non-information needs.
DeleteDoug was the best.
ReplyDeleteJust like Doug Funny the christmas tree.
DeleteAwwwwh, Wishbone and Arthur and Doug! I also loved Pepperann, Puzzle Place, Ghost Writer, Magic School Bus... And I know Sabrina the Teenage Witch is not really in this same category. But, I miss Sabrina.
ReplyDeleteAlso....RECESS! I forgot that one!
Deletearthur! yes yes yes.
ReplyDeleterecently they just put Sabrina the teenage witch on hulu and I have been watching every single episode.
This kind of information is not safe in my hands...
DeleteDid you know they have Arthur on Netflix?! I loved all of these shows growing up! Good memories!! :) I love this post!
ReplyDeleteI know what I'll be falling asleep to tonight, holla!
DeleteARTHUR!! I watched that show all the way until I was in college. (And I would STILL watch it if I could! :) )
ReplyDeleteIt will please you to read above comments and learn, like I learned today, that Arthur is available on Netflix.
DeleteAs much as I hate to admit this, I loved Digimon Digital Monsters. I looked forward to every Saturday morning when I could watch the show.
ReplyDeleteI was a little sad to see that Zoom wasn't on there. I thought I was going to be on that show. I was fluent in Ubbi Dubbi.
Also, Rugrats. I identified with Chuckie. The glasses. The awkward.
How could I forget?! I watched so much Rugrats! Definitely an oversight on my part. I think I identified with Reptar.
DeleteI can pretty much gush about any of these series, but I was a total Magic School Bus addict. To this day I think of it whenever I read about the digestive system, or sound waves, or friction. Also, of course, the baking episode where they show the difference between salt and sugar crystals.
ReplyDeleteI like to think I live up to Ms. Frizzle's motto, "Take chances! Make mistakes! Get messy!"
Also, any time I reminisce about Arthur, this comes to mind:

hahaha I totally love that you just threw down your favorite Arthur episode. Way to be.
DeleteHey, girl's gotta represent.
DeleteSpeaking of, can we bond over how AMAZING Clarissa's wardrobe is on Clarissa Explains It All, and how as a kid I always wanted my boy-next-door to prop a ladder up against my bedroom window? It was a shame that I lived in a one-story house.
I support your be-like-clarissa dreams and...a guy could always substitute a small step ladder.
Deleteahhh haha LOVE this! thanks for the walk down memory lane, those were some of the best shows! i watched arthur like every day after school. love it!
ReplyDeletedarling blog, now following! xo chaseandem.blogspot.com
