I went through this odd phase when I was youngen: I preferred to skate with my rollerblades on the wrong feet. Why? Good question. I think maybe I found it easier to balance that way.
Lately, I’ve been so exhausted. And so busy. And so tired. (Did I mention that?)
I’ve been inclined – nay, compelled – to reevaluate how I allocate my time. Because…
Every. Minute. Of. Every. Day. Is. Scheduled.
I only blame myself … because we know I’m addicted to … well, many many things.
Credit to myself: I’ve gotten slightly better at sacrificing. Case in point: I haven’t played ultimate Frisbee (my dearly beloved pastime above all others pastimes) in almost 3 months.
THREE MONTHS.
Because I had to make choices. I had to pick priorities. I settled on: Religion. Relationships. Obligatory financial responsibility. (Code for “the cubicle I must attend to all day because that’s what you do when you’re a grown-up.")
I therefore, often, neglect (sometimes willingly, sometimes with tantrums, sometimes with a large dose of guilt) any and all of the following:

But occasionally. Occasionally these things happen. And I hold my eyelids open, breathe, and enjoy.
Because, oddly enough, having ridiculously simple dreams in a busy, complicated world is sometimes the most complicated thing of all. Gills v. Oxygen.
Like rollerblades on the wrong feet. Why? Good question. I think, maybe…
Don't worry, life will slow down at some point. Maybe you'll even get to take "afternoon naps" occasionally. And even if it doesn't slow down, you'll learn how to manage it all. I have faith in you:) You're already doing a great job!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Word verification: haming - the act of eating ham. I think there's a reason all of my word verifications have to do with food.
Very good.

I am relieved to know that having to put somewhat important things on the back burner is NOT a result of crappy time management, but rather just adulthood.
ReplyDeleteScratch that. Very very important things go on the back burner. Rather significant things are shoved to the countertops and cupbards. Not so important things don't even end up in the kitchen.
The front burners are reserved for absolute non-negotiable priorities.
But this quote from Julie B. Beck is just the best thing ever:
"A good woman knows that she does not have enough time, energby, or opportunity to take care of all of the people or do all of the worthy things her heart yearns to do."
This does not describe a woman that simply does not measure up. This does not describe a woman that settles for less than her potential.
This describes a "good" woman.
....and apparently I have used this comment as a mini blog, considering that my own blogging has been shoved into a high up cupboard somewhere in that cluttered kitchen.
Oh well :)
